Dear Patients,

Brickfields Surgery remains open and accessible, keeping our community safe during Covid 19 and beyond

In autumn 2019 Dr Everett, the sole partner at Brickfields Surgery, decided to retire. As Dr Everett had no partner to take on the practice there was a real risk of patients being forced to change to other surgeries who were able to take them, possibly away from South Woodham Ferrers.

To avoid this process called “list dispersal”, NHS England and NHS Mid Essex Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) entered into talks with neighbouring practices.

In November 2019, Kingsway Surgery agreed to take contractual responsibility for the running of Brickfields surgery; with support from NHS England and Mid Essex CCG, this information was publicised on the surgery website and in the local Focus magazine.

NHS England stipulated that the two practices should then endeavour to merge following an interim period of stabilisation that allowed their working practices to align.

The two practices have applied to merge, the start of a process which in any event should have no visible effect for patients at either practice.

We will continue to keep you updated as the merger process develops.

Please CLICK HERE for patient questions & answers

If you have any comments or views regarding the merger please email  marked FAO Practice Manager

Dear Patients,

Please note that we are a designated centre for South Woodham and the Dengie to give covid vaccinations.

At the present time we have not been issued with any vaccinations but are hoping to start sometime in January 2021.

Please do not contact the surgeries to book an appointment for your vaccinations, we will be contacting pts to book two vaccination appointments as soon as we know when we can start.

Thank you for your assistance

Dear Patients,

Due to shortage of clinical staff, who are having to self-isolate after being in contact with COVID positive cases, we can only offer telephonic triage or video calling at the present time.

Please bear with us during this difficult time.

Due to the high transmission rates of the COVID variant please only contact the surgeries by telephone & avoid walking in UNLESS you have a pre-booked face to face appointment.

Thank you for your assistance with this matter

We are pleased to advise that blood tests can now be booked directly for Mid Essex Phlebotomy (Broomfield, St Peter’s, Christchurch & St Michael’s) using this link

Welcome to Brickfields Surgery:

Dear patients please be aware of the following dates when our surgery will be closed for the afternoon for staff training. Please note that our telephone system will be transferred to the Out of Hours team, on those days, from 12.30pm.

2021 dates to be advised

Dear patients, please note that we will be holding another over 65yr flu clinic on Saturday 10th October 2020. Please note that you will need to book an appointment for this clinic by contacting reception on 01245 328855.

Please note that we are are being covid safe during this clinic. All patients need to wear masks to attend and will be using the one way system through the building.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Guidance for patients requesting exemption letters

Dear patients please see the above link if you are wanting to request a GP letter to exempt you from wearing face masks, thank you.

Dear patients,

We would wish to inform you that from Monday the 22nd of  June 2020 all appointments can only be booked by telephone still. We are continuing to follow a ‘telephone triage first’ policy and clinicians will make the decision on who they feel should be brought in for a face to face consultation after the triage, if needed. We ARE NOT  open for patients to walk in and book appointments and will not accept patients queuing outside to book an appointment. If you so choose to walk in to book appointments you will be asked to return and ring us back for a telephone triage.

The practices have had to modify our ways of working to ensure patient and staff safety. We  are now looking to normalise our patient care. We appreciate this ‘new normal’ is a novel way of working with us and sincerely appreciate the forbearance and patience this has needed and which you have provided thus far. The pandemic has engineered newer ways of working in the form of telephonic, video consultations etc and we intend to continue to rely on them on as an effective and safe means of communication with you.

If you are asked to attend for any appointment with the Nurse or GP please make sure you wear a face covering to the appointment. Do come alone unless you are bringing a baby/child or you need help with your mobility or you need a carer or friend to attend the appointment with you.

Please note that any images you send in for review need your consent for them to be  saved onto your clinical records. This will be securely stored and will help aid in your diagnosis and management. The images will not be used for any other purpose. If you choose not to have these images saved onto your clinical records please let us know and they will be deleted.

If you have a cough, raised temperature or loss of taste and/or smell, PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND the surgery, call NHS 111 for advice and further treatment.

Monday 15th June 2020

Dear patients, please note that from today you will be asked to wear a face covering or mask when you attend the medical centre for any reason for the safety of yourself, our staff & other patients.

Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

Dear Patients, thank you for your assistance during the continued COVID-19 pandemic. I am updating you now with the next steps we will be taking as we try to return to the 'new' normal way of working.

We will be having a screen around the reception desk and continue with the safe 2m distancing in the surgery, this will also be extended to outside of the building so you may queue safely or wait in your car.

The main corridor will be one way only which means you will be leaving the building either via the fire exit at the end of the corridor turning right to get to the car park or via the fire exit by the treatment rooms turning right to the car park. For PROVIDE areas upstairs follow the red foot prints to the lift or stairs & if you come into the waiting room to drop something off you will be leaving as now, via the fire exit at the side.

Our staff will still be wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) & we would urge you to wear a mask if going into an area with other people.

Our appointments will still be a mix of telephone reviews & video calls & we will begin increasing our routine blood test appointments and nursing routine appointments slowly over the coming weeks.

Most importantly, stay alert, stay safe, regular hand washing & hand sanitising & do not attend the surgery if you develop symptoms of new cough, high temp, lost sense of smell or taste, instead ring NHS111.

Thank you & Kind Regards

From All The Staff At Brickfields Surgery

The repeat medication is ready to collect from the nominated pharmacy each month as usual but the need to request the repeat medication on a monthly basis is eliminated.

We will be promoting this service at your annual medication review but please enquire before if this is something that would interest you.

Please remember that we are doing telephone appointments and only seeing patients face to face when the clinical team members feel it is needed.

Clinical Computer System -

We have updated our computer system to Systmone.

Systmonline has excellent help pages - should you ever have problems.

If you find you need a new log-on please ask at reception.

GP Net Earnings

All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (e.g.average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice.

The average pay for GPs working in Brickfields Surgery in the last financial year 2018 -2019 was £51,816.00 before Tax and National Insurance.

This is for 4 part time GPs and 2 Locum GP who worked in the practice for more than six months.

Please note that the prescribed method for calculating earnings is potentially misleading because it takes no account of how much time doctors spend working in the practice and should not be used to form any judgement about GP earnings, nor make comparison with any other GP practice.

Patient Online - SystmOnline can now offer you a summary view of your medical record online.  If you wish to sign up to this you will need to come into the surgery and fill in a registration form (proof of photo ID is required).  If you send a representative we will need your written consent(proxy registration form completed).  A username and password will be issued to you and this will give you access to your repeat medication list, the ability to book appointments and a summary of your medical records.

If you are an existing user of Systmonline and wish to add the facility of viewing a summary of your medical record, you will also be required to fill in a registration form.
